PineconeTo see a young child hauling a heavy load of books to school can be heartbreaking for parents. But in a highly competitive world, the importance of a strong educational foundation is well known, and if that is the price to be paid, so be it. The problem is that all the books and homework in the world cannot guarantee a strong base in critical subjects like reading and math. Some children have a natural antipathy to these subjects - perhaps because the fundamentals have not been clearly grasped. Others may not have any difficulty in understanding but may not have the kind of interest in them that enables internalization and application of what is taught. A simple solution to both these problems is tutoring.

A Tutoring Overload?

To subject a child, already overburdened with learning pressures to even more teaching in the form of tutoring may seem to be unfair or even impossible. Many may also feel it is counterproductive. If a child has difficulty grasping concepts or is slow to internalize them, it is easy to presume that any attempt to increase the quantity of learning will be too much for the child and that instead of absorbing more, the child will actually begin to resist any kind of learning. In part, these may be valid arguments against the concept of tutoring. But if the process is conducted in a planned and focused manner, with the focus kept on the cognitive and emotional needs of the child, then the benefit to be had from it can be huge.Pinecone

The common problem with tutoring is that in many cases the aim is simply to cram information into the mind of the child. The objective? To enable the child to keep up with peers in school or preschool. This kind of force feeding of scholastic information to a child may provide some results in the short term, but as time progresses, the lack of focus on the child's needs will cause the child to resent the whole exercise. And from a dislike of the subject the child is being tutored in to a dislike of any form of learning is a short step.
The Better Alternative

Instead of engaging private tutors, parents who wish to give their children a strong start to their school years should look for tutoring centers which are run professionally with qualified, trained and dedicated staff. The best of these centers use the latest teaching methods and learning aids to enable children who go to them to acquire the kind of knowledge that will equip them to function well in an academic environment. At Pinecone Learning, in San Jose, we pride ourselves on being among the best. Our aim is not to stuff information into a child. It is to give the child a solid foundation in core subjects so that the child is equipped with the tools necessary to enable him or her to study, learn and internalize knowledge effectively in later years. This is the true aim of tutoring. It is not to force knowledge into a child. It is to enable children, in a stress free manner, to absorb and utilize the information and knowledge that is presented to them is a way that is easy for them to understand.

PineconeThis is our objective and our focus. Our foundation programs in math, reading and now writing, are designed to enable our students to learn and enjoy the challenge of using the knowledge they gain. This is true learning and it is done in a stress free manner so that the children never feel burdened or that they are being forced to do things they resent. Our students are happy to come to us and we are happy to have them. Students may come in anytime during class hours and will typically stay for about 20 minutes per subject. We have a lovely reading area where they can wait to be picked up.

Try our complementary placement testing and orientation. It will give you a better understanding of why we are so good at what we do and how your child will learn the foundation skills he or she needs in a calm, stress free and happy manner.

"I am back in school again, senior year! It's pretty exciting to almost be done with high school. Algebra 2 went well this summer, I received a B+! I hope you are doing well, and thank you again! If it was not for your help, I know I would not have done too good."
