PineconeDoes Your Child Need Tuition?

Heavier schedules and increasing workloads are making it more and more difficult for children to keep up with their school work. Crowded classrooms and parents busy coping with the pressures of modern life make it difficult for children to receive the kind of one-on-one attention that can help them to overcome the problems they face in their studies. This is why an ever increasing number of parents are finding that tuition is the most effective way to provide their children with the learning support they need. Does your child need this kind of help? Although not exhaustive, here are 6 indications that your child may benefit from the individual attention that tuition provides.

Falling Grades

This is one of the most obvious signs that a child is having difficulties in school. Making the child "study harder" is not the solution. There may be problems in grasping concepts or maintaining focus. Talking to the teacher can help pinpoint where the problem is. Once the issue has been found, tuition can help the child to overcome the problems in understanding and increase focus.

Postponing Work

A child not wanting to spend time on homework is understandable. But when it becomes a state of constant procrastination where work is put off until the teacher is forced to take action and the parents are notified, something is wrong. Postponing work may not be due to a desire to be doing something else. It may be because of fear of the subject. Fear often arises from a lack of self-confidence in a child’s abilities and the anticipation of not doing well.

Confusion And Anxiety

A child who is constantly confused and / or anxious about work that needs to be done or about forthcoming exams and tests is one who is uncertain about his or her understanding of the subject. In some cases the child may actually understand the subject but the anxiety about not doing well may cause uncertainty, confusion and poor results.

Lack Of Self-Confidence

Being uncertain when starting something new is normal. But when it continues for an extended period, there is a problem. A child who struggles for a long time on problems but is reluctant to ask for or receive help could be uncertain about his or her abilities. This kind of lack of confidence can also affect a child who actually does understand the issues but is frightened of making mistakes.

Inadequate Parental Support

Concepts being covered in schools today are often strange and unfamiliar to parents. When a child senses that the parents are uncertain about how to proceed, that often creates insecurity. Or it could be that time pressures on the parents preclude their devoting enough time to help their children with school work. Either way, the lack of support at home, for which no one is to blame, can place a child at a disadvantage vis-à-vis his or her peers.

Learning Disabilities

The diagnosis of children with learning disabilities like dyslexia, ADHD and visual processing problems is becoming more common. In many cases these conditions are controllable and treatable, but it requires the kind of direct student teacher interaction that schools cannot provide.

Pinecone The Pinecone Advantage

A child in need of tuition is not weak or a slow learner. Every human being has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. Children will have a stronger affinity towards some subjects than others. Obviously the rate are which they are able to understand and internalize knowledge on these subjects will be faster. Differing levels of effort being required to learn different subjects is normal. However, when the effort to learn in one area is such that it has a negative impact on other subjects, affects the child’s self-confidence and self-esteem and cause stress and anxiety, action should be taken to correct the situation. Providing tuition is often the best solution to these issues.

At Pinecone Learning our focus is on the child. Improving the understanding of a subject and enabling the application of the knowledge gained is very important, but it is not an end in itself. We know that by providing our students with the learning support they need, we are helping them to develop into well-rounded human beings who will be able to cope with the stress and challenges that secondary and tertiary education will place on them. Our reading, writing and math programs are all designed to help students achieve the scholastic results that will boost the confidence in their abilities and provide the foundation for the absorption and application of the years of learning to follow.

"My daughter had slow progress in her reading ability since Kindergarten so I enrolled her at Pinecone during here first grade year. My daughter attended the reading program here for approximately 10 months and It definitively helped her reading ability progress. I don't remember the length of each session, maybe between 30m-60m, twice weekly. I would re-enroll her if they offered a flex-day. e.g. Your child is allowed to attend two of any three sessions within the week.

From an organizational perspective Vivian is consistent and accommodating. I am grateful for her professionalism and aptitude. She is far more capable and culpable than other private learning programs in the Evergreen Area.

So when is Pinecone going to offer a full-time summer learning experience for the kids? The summer programs in the Evergreen Area are a joke. I want a summer program ran by Vivian."
