Choosing The Right Tutoring Program

Pinecone If no two children are alike, it follows that no two children will be able to learn in exactly the same manner. When a large number of students are being taught the same thing at the same time - as in a school classroom - the focus must be on imparting knowledge in a manner that will be correct for the average child. But what happens when a child is not "average" in a particular subject? He or she could be very bright but just have difficulty in understanding a few subjects. Or they may be specially talented in this particular area and find that the "average" is boring, leading to lack of interest and falling grades. There is little that the teacher, faced with a large class and limited time, can do in such cases. The proven solution is to place the child in a tutoring program.

Placing your child in a tutoring program could be one of the most important educational benefits you can give him or her. But the key is to choose the right program. Here are the basic steps to finding it:

   •   The first step is to explain to the child why tutoring is required and what benefits will come from it. This is important to overcome the natural disinclination to "studying" more.

   •   Spend time researching the program available to find one that specializes in the subjects required. Programs that offer tuition in every subject often lack the clear focus, that will provide the maximum benefits to children who go there.

   •   Check up on the institutions' credentials. Ask about their objectives. Why has the founder / director started it? What are the credentials and experience of the people involved? Is the teaching focused on the learning requirements of your child’s grade level?

   •   Find out about the experiences of other parents and children who have studied there. What do their testimonials say?

   •   Tutoring is a tool, not a crutch. Does the institute support and encourage creative thinking? So that in time, the need for tutoring is no longer required. And the child has the foundation skills to stand on his or her own academic feet in school without the need for extra support.

   •   What is the system of pedagogy being used? Is it the best and are the tutors experienced in its application?

   •   Are there clearly defined teaching programs and goals so that progress / development of skills can be observed?

   •   Spend some time to see how good the rapport between the students and the teachers is. The more comfortable the students feel, the more conducive the learning atmosphere.

   •   Will you receive regular feedback on your child’s progress and if there are specific problems, advice and help on how they can be overcome?

   •   What is the ambiance of the institute? Is it open and friendly so that the children are comfortable there?

   •   Are the tutoring days and timings convenient? Is there a safe place for the children to wait in comfort before being picked up after class?

Pinecone Why Pinecone Learning?

At Pinecone Learning our focus is not limited to conveying information and knowledge to our students. We offer tutoring in the foundation skills of reading, writing and math and our focus is to develop a child’s inherent abilities to do well in these subjects. Our aim is not limited to helping our students keep up with their peers academically. These foundation skills impact every aspect of learning and affect how children grow to be contributing and successful members of society. We work to encourage, develop, enhance and fine tune their skills in these areas so that in time they have a foundation that is strong enough to enable them to succeed in all aspects of learning and living.

Making claims about helping children to achieve academic success is simple. We know that parents do not want to take chances with their child's future. That is why we are completely open about what we do, how we do it, what our goals are and the learning environment we provide. To learn more about the stress free way we tutor our students and the state-of-the-art pedagogic techniques we use to make learning easier and internalization more effective, visit our website. We will be happy to tell you more about what we do, how we do it and to answer all your questions. Pinecone Learning is not a place where children must study; it is where they want to learn.

Testimonials

"Vivian's program is helping my child build a strong foundation in math skills and concepts. At school, the textbooks seem to touch the surface of math concepts very quickly and by the end of the week the students are given a math test. We were concerned about our child actually learning the basic core foundations of math with this approach of the school textbooks. We didn't understand how our child would succeed in learning the basic math skills to build upon to the next levels in math. Then we found Vivian's Pinecone program.

The Pinecone Program is great and it meets your child where he/she is currently in reading and/or math. An individual plan is created for your child to meet his/her needs whether your child is struggling or a gifted, advanced student.

Vivian, we want to thank you for all you and your staff do for all your students! Your passion for teaching and making a diiference in your students' lives shows in the way you care about each one of them.

We are happy to share with you the results of our child's 4th grade CA STAR math test results we just received in the mail. In 4 testing math standards, scores of 100% in each of them and in the math algebra and functions standard a score of 94%. We are blown away! Woohoo Pinecone!!

Thank you so much!"
